What is a Dynamic Tag?

A Dynamic Tag is used to integrate stored information into a Template. For example, our database collects information about your customers, including their names, the cities they live in, any recent purchases, etc. A Dynamic Tag is a specially-formatted statement you can place in your Mailout that tells our database to “fill in the blank” with a specific piece of information from your database.

The most commonly used Dynamic Tag used to personalize Mailouts is the customer’s name. For example:

will appear as

"Hello John! Thank you for your recent purchase."

This customer name tag allows us to personalize emails to be specific to each customer and to avoid awkward and generic greetings such as “Dear Occupant” or “Hello Local Resident”.

How to use Dynamic Tags

Dynamic Tags can either be added manually or copied and pasted from the list of supported tags below, but the easiest way to use Dynamic Tags is to choose the ones you need from your Template Editor or Campaign Creator.

Dynamic Tags have their own drop-down menu inside the Template Editor where you can easily insert them by clicking on the one(s) you want.

During the creation of a Campaign, Dynamic Tags can also be included in the Subject Line and/or in the Preview Text by clicking the ‘tag’ button and selecting the tag you want from the list.

Template Filters

Template filters provide additional personalization. This includes accessing custom properties for recipients, setting default values, and setting additional formatting options.

Checkouts - to use these codes, they must be in 3 separate text blocks

{% for product in checkout.products %}

   {{ product.name }}

{% endfor %}

{% for product in order.products %}

   {{ product.name }}

{% endfor %}

Predictive products (provides 3):

{% for product in customer.predictive_products %}

   {{ product.name }}

{% endfor %}

The Default filter is used to specify a default in case a variable doesn’t have a corresponding value. This is useful as placeholder in situations where you don’t have the information you want to include. For example:Screen_Shot_2016-12-09_at_11.36.34_AM.png

will appear as

"Hello John! Thank you for your recent purchase."

If there is no customer name, the above code would appear as:

"Hello there! Thank you for your recent purchase."

Our Dynamic Tags are created using a syntax (similar to Shopify’s liquid syntax) which supports a combination of tags, objects, and filters to load dynamic content.
